Your first lesson with me! 😄
Bach Aria duet
- Warm up with a 1 octave D minor scale, 4 down strokes on each note, trying out the new wrist action. Careful to keep the tempo steady!
- As you do your down stroke, let the pick rest on the string below.
- Watch the video below and think about the angle of your pick as you do this.
- Think of your grip on the pick like a slightly wobbly tooth – not too firm, not too loose.
- In the piece, practice the shift on the 2nd line by playing G and B flat in first position, then moving the 2nd finger from G to B flat. Try to repeat this 3-5 times securely before moving on.
Bach Air
- Warm up with E minor 1 octave, again working on your wrist flexibility.
- Get used to the 2nd position shifting in bars 18 and 25. Try to move the whole hand as a unit, so that the following notes fall into place under the fingers.
Microjazz
- Play through these simpler pieces whilst really thinking about whether you’re catching both strings.
